Many parents are eager to find out the gender of their child. Some want a girl, others a boy, but most want the possibility of choice. For this, prospective parents resort to various methods. Some of these methods lack scientific basis, while others involve the use of special calendars.

What determines the baby’s gender
When planning the gender of a child, it is important to take into account that it depends on genetic material. A female egg consists of two X chromosomes, while a male sperm has X and Y chromosomes. Once the egg is fertilized, the sets of two chromosomes merge. Genetic information is established at the early stages of fetal development, resulting in a child of a particular gender being born.
Thus, different methods for planning a child’s gender can be applied even before conception, but it’s important to note that there is always a certain percentage of inaccuracy. Determining gender with maximum accuracy is only possible through genetic testing.
Planning Methods
The planning of a child’s gender can be carried out in different ways. Each of these methods has its own specifics.
Genetic Diagnosis
The gender of a baby can be determined using genetic diagnosis. The procedure is conducted during IVF. After the eggs are fertilized, embryos are formed. Three days later, when the embryos contain 6-7 cells, the genetic composition of one of the cells is examined. At this stage, it is possible to determine which embryo contains the sex chromosomes, i.e., the gender of the future baby.
There are several criteria that make this method considered the most effective:
- scientific approach to planning;
- analysis of both father and mother’s data;
- application without attachment to external factors;
- conducted in specialized laboratories.

If the gender of the future child suits the parents, the selected embryo is implanted. Generally, genetic diagnosis is performed to avoid hereditary diseases associated with the birth of a particular gender.
By Ovulation
Planning the child’s gender can also be done by ovulation day. To monitor ovulation, temperature measurement and charting are required. Additionally, for convenience, special tests can be used. This method involves determining the day on which ovulation will occur from the ovary.
Based on the cycle duration, by using a calendar, you can easily determine the ovulation date. If unprotected intercourse occurs precisely on that date (allowing for plus or minus one day), when the egg is released, a boy is more likely to be born. Orientation should be by months.
However, if intercourse happens three days before that event, the most active sperm with the Y chromosome simply won’t survive. It is commonly believed that the child will be of the gender of the parent whose blood is renewed earlier. This is quite easily calculated by the age of the partners. However, attention should also be paid to forced blood loss, such as childbirth or blood donation.

There is also another option that allows avoiding monthly calculations. It simply requires the parent whose child’s gender is planned to donate blood. The optimal time to do this is 3 months prior to conception.

The mother’s age needs to be calculated according to the Chinese calendar, which has 28 days in each month.
Japanese Method
There is also the Japanese method for planning a baby’s gender. A special chart is used for this. Following it, you just need to determine the secret number: for this, you must specify your birth month and your partner’s birth month. The secret number will be found at the intersection of these numbers.
Next, you will need to move on to the second chart. In it, you need to find the number that was in the first chart, as well as the month of planned conception of the child. The cell where both columns intersect will indicate the gender. This is a very effective method that allows you to determine the baby’s gender before birth by conception month.
Planning by mother’s age
This method of planning a child’s gender was first described in Ancient China. Wise men were convinced that the gender depends on the month of conception. The age of the future mother also plays a role. For example, a 25-year-old mother has a 70% or higher chance of having a boy in the autumn and winter months, and a girl in the spring. However, for a 24-year-old mother, the situation with child planning is completely opposite.
To significantly simplify age calculations, special tables were even compiled. They indicate favorable months for conceiving a boy or a girl based on the mother’s age.

As experts point out, this method of planning a child’s gender according to the table is very close to the truth. By following the advice formulated back in Ancient China, one can increase the probability by about 60% that the child will be of the desired gender.
By blood type
To plan conception and the gender of the baby, you can also use a special calculator. For this, it is necessary to know the blood type of both parents. The Rh factor plays a special role in planning the child’s gender. If the man and woman have the same Rh factor, they can expect a girl. If the Rh factors are different, then a boy will be born into the family.
It should be noted that planning by blood type does not provide 100% results. In one family, both a boy and a girl can be born. Therefore, you can certainly try to calculate, but there is still a chance that the results will not match expectations.

Gender Planning with IVF

- In tables M-4 and M-5, we respectively find the adjustments for the month and day of conception.
- We add all the previously obtained numbers and find the coefficient in table M-6.
In tables J-1 to J-6, a similar method is used to find the coefficient for the mother. According to this method, the couple will have a child of the gender of the parent with the higher coefficient. If both numbers are zero, it is highly likely they should expect a girl.
