Wraps and Other Postpartum Procedures

Procedures for Nursing Mothers

What is wrapping?

This involves applying active components to the affected area and securing them with plastic wrap (food wrap can be used) for a certain period of time—from half an hour to several hours. They must be done as a course: daily or every other day, typically 10 sessions are recommended. One-time use will not be beneficial. The procedure is simple and can easily be done at home, which is especially convenient for new moms. Postpartum wraps are an effective solution for any woman.

Why does a young mom need wraps?

Childbirth has brought several changes to a woman’s appearance: many of them beneficial, such as a high and full chest. But some need a little work to once again please the eye. First of all, new mothers are concerned about belly flaccidity and extra weight – the “pregnancy” kilograms don’t always stay in the delivery room. You want to start procedures as soon as possible to remove the postpartum belly and return to your previous weight.

Wraps provide a good effect:

  • for overall slimming or volume reduction;
  • for skin tightening and elasticity restoration;
  • to improve vascular function, thus enhancing the appearance and color of the skin;
  • to eliminate edema by ensuring lymphatic drainage;
  • during comprehensive body detoxification.

Moreover, they lift your mood, as they are a direct expression of self-care, and add a pleasant variety to maternity daily life.

Postpartum Wraps for Nursing Mothers

If the baby is on formula, naturally, there’s nothing to worry about: as soon as the body gets back into shape and the doctor gives the green light, you can start engaging in sports and skincare procedures. Of course, if a cesarean was performed, the scar must completely heal: wraps should not be done with skin injuries at all. It’s unlikely that this thought will occur with cystitis, gynecological problems, gastrointestinal diseases, or if there is initially low weight and exhaustion.

During lactation, you should be even more cautious: there are several contraindications.

What a Nursing Mother Should Remember While Planning Wraps

  1. The skin effectively absorbs whatever is applied to it. This is the effect of wraps. This means that everything that gets on the skin will also enter the bloodstream, and thus the milk. Therefore, no “intense” fat-burning compositions – only natural ingredients.
  2. Hot wraps increase blood flow, so they are contraindicated for breastfeeding women. Warming procedures for the abdomen after childbirth are not recommended, as well as for other parts of the body.
  3. Be careful, allergies! The changed hormonal background may react unexpectedly to honey, essential oils, and other possible components. It is advisable to conduct a patch test first.

What can be used for wrapping during breastfeeding?

So, a breastfeeding mother’s choice is cold wraps. They are also very beneficial: their principle of action is based on increasing lymphatic drainage and deep internal cleansing of tissues. Due to cooling, the vessels will constrict sharply, and the body will be forced to expend energy to warm up, which will promote fat cell burning. Moreover, beneficial substances directly affect the skin. Cold wraps for weight loss postpartum are allowed during lactation and have minimal contraindications.

Here are some options for mixtures to apply under wrapping:

  • vinegar – soak bandages in water with apple cider vinegar 50/50, keep the body under the wrap for 1-1.5 hours;
  • oil – add a few drops of oil you are not allergic to into olive oil – mint, grapefruit, juniper, grape seed, almond (apply for 0.5 – 1 hour);
  • clay – you will need blue clay, dilute the powder with room temperature water, can keep on the body for up to 2 hours;
  • potato – grate raw potato, can add menthol or mint drops, keep under wrap for an hour to one and a half;
  • seaweed – you will need to buy ready-made or take seaweed for hot wrapping, but soak them in cool water for 30 minutes, without heating.
