Line on the Stomach After Childbirth: What to Do?

Why does a dark line appear on the abdomen after childbirth?

The dark line in the middle of a woman’s abdomen is noticed during pregnancy. However, it doesn’t disappear immediately after childbirth – in some cases, the line remains for one and a half years or more. Each woman has a unique shape and color of the line on the abdomen after childbirth. The darker the expectant mother’s skin, the more pronounced the line will be on her abdomen.

Causes and factors affecting the intensity of the coloring in the middle of the abdomen after childbirth:

  1. Hormonal changes.
  2. Lack of vitamins and trace elements (B vitamins, vitamin C, iron, zinc, copper, folic acid).
  3. Stress.
  4. Use of hormonal contraceptives before pregnancy.
  5. Diseases of internal organs.
  6. Exposure to sunlight.

All these factors collectively determine not only the color of the line on the belly after childbirth but also the duration of its disappearance. Hyperpigmentation manifests not only on the belly but also on the face, chest, neck.

How to remove the line on the belly after childbirth?

It is not necessary to make efforts to get rid of the dark line on the belly. It will disappear on its own over time. However, if there is a desire to speed up the process, you can turn to various methods or even combine them.

Folk methods for dealing with the dark line on the belly after childbirth

Most methods are not suitable for breastfeeding mothers as cosmetic products mostly contain substances that can be absorbed through the skin and enter the bloodstream. And salon procedures are often painful and associated with unpleasant sensations and stress. Therefore, it is worth turning to the gentlest methods first – folk remedies.

It’s important not to overuse homemade cosmetics. Excessive use can cause burns or increase pigmentation.

Cucumber is believed to help remove spots – just apply its slices to the pigmented area or spread cucumber puree on your belly. The duration of such a procedure is 20 minutes.

Lemon juice with honey can also brighten the skin. For this, add 2 tablespoons of honey to the juice squeezed from two medium lemons. Soak a napkin with the obtained liquid and apply it to the belly stripe or other body areas.

A parsley decoction can brighten the postpartum belly stripe as well. Use it in the form of ice. Freeze a concentrated decoction in ice cube trays and rub them over the pigmented body areas every morning.

Cosmetic Products

When choosing skincare products for lightening the skin on the stomach, it is important to pay attention to the presence of the following components in the composition:

  • licorice extract;
  • yarrow;
  • birch;
  • bearberry extract, aloe;
  • lactic, glycolic, citric acid.

The presence of these ingredients in creams and ointments accelerates the fading of the brown line on the stomach after childbirth.

Salon Procedures

Beauty and health centers offer a range of services that can help achieve the effect of disappearing the line on the stomach:

  1. Laser resurfacing.
  2. Ultrasonic peeling.
  3. Chemical peeling.
  4. Mesotherapy.
  5. Cryotherapy.

Most of these methods are extremely painful, so not every woman is willing to undergo them.

How to Get Rid of the Dark Line After Childbirth with Nutrition?

Some foods due to their composition affect the duration of the disappearance of the dark line on the belly. Citrus fruits, watermelon, peach, apricot, pumpkin, tomatoes, red meat, fish, dates, beans, and soy slow its disappearance. However, this is not a reason to avoid these products – just refrain from excessive consumption.

Coffee, chocolate, nuts, and salty food speed up the disappearance of the line on the belly.
