It is in the nature of women to always stay beautiful. To do this, she performs many actions – trying to be stylish and fashionable to dress, doing manicure and pedicure, put on makeup.

A neat hairstyle, shiny, healthy hair is an integral part of grooming. And while prejudice against cutting hair is often related to prejudice, in the matter of hair dyeing during pregnancy, everything is more complicated. Because any dye is a mix of chemicals, you should first understand what dye is least harmful, when you can color, and when it is worth refraining from it.

Is it harmful to dye hair during pregnancy?

Despite the large number of studies that have been conducted on hair coloring during pregnancy, experts cannot give a definite positive or negative answer to the question of whether it is harmful to the developing fetus. Some researchers believe that during the coloring techniques of balayage or shatouch, when the dye is not in contact with the scalp, therefore, the risks of penetration of the composition and its harmful effects are minimal.

They claim that industrial dyes contain a minimal amount of chemical toxins, so when dyeing hair during pregnancy can cause no harm to either the unborn mother or the fetus. Other experts believe that dyes based on chemical constituents increase the possibility of cancer and adversely affect the normal development of the child. After evaluating the pros and cons, you should consult your gynecologist.

Why “yes.”

Those experts who believe it is acceptable to paint hair during pregnancy, argue that the compositions of modern paints are becoming safer every year. In addition, if the skill of the master is high, the skin contact with dyes is minimal, its penetration into the blood is practically zero.

Therefore, a tiny amount of the substance, even if it gets into it, on the health of the unborn child, reliably protected by the placenta, should not affect. If you buy for hair coloring during pregnancy brand cosmetics, which contains minimal harmful substances, rather than the cheapest and, therefore, harmful colors, then the guarantee of harmlessness of the procedure multiplies.

How else to prevent possible harm

Before you decide to conduct hair dyeing during pregnancy, you need to understand how you can still reduce the possibility of harmful effects on the future baby. So, to exclude the possibility of getting on the skin, and then – in the body will allow the application of any dye with a slight step away from the roots of the hair. Reduces the possible negative effect of the dye by the choice of the type of dyeing.

The most suitable option for such cases is bronzing, melting, shatush, chalking and other types of toning. These methods involve the application of coloring pigments with a step of 2-3 cm from the roots and on the individual strands. No less luxurious look will give a woman and ombré. In this case, the contact of the colors with the skin is completely excluded, because the coloring substances are applied only to the lower part of the length.

Why “no.”

The idea of dyeing hair during pregnancy has also opponents, who also argue for their position. They argue that during this period the general condition of hair deteriorates due to the lack of microelements and vitamins, and the dye weakens and thins them even more. Regular use of dyes leads to the accumulation, the harmful components contained in them, in the scalp, the hair shaft.

They can cause inflammation, allergies, coughs and headaches. They include:

  • Ammonia – inhaling its fumes can cause respiratory problems, hair coloring opens the hair cuticle, pores, which promotes rapid penetration of toxins into the body and can provoke an allergic reaction;
  • resorcinol – a strong allergen and carcinogen, can lead to severe burns of the skin, mucous eyes, affects the synthesis of hormones.

Contraindications. When categorically not allowed.

Having analyzed the pros and cons of hair dyeing during pregnancy in principle, it is necessary first of all to be guided by the condition of the particular woman who is expecting a baby, and the course of her pregnancy. Individual contraindications to the beauty procedure may be, for example, the presence of toxicosis. Or the occurrence of unexpected allergic reactions that have never been encountered before.

An aqueous solution of ammonia or ammonium hydroxide and its vapors can:

  • provoke or aggravate toxicosis;
  • cause migraines.

You should not experiment with hair dyeing during pregnancy, and if your skin has become problematic. You should try to postpone any procedures or minimize them, so as not to further stimulate the already irritated skin. In addition, you should definitely consult a doctor in cases where you cannot do without the beauty ritual.

The choice of hair dye

If the main stumbling block is the hair dye and its composition, you can solve the problem of safe hair dyeing during pregnancy by choosing a dye with organic natural components. It is worth giving preference to dyes, in which the manufacturer uses caring components in the formulas. An example is Inoa (L’Oréal Pro) with very good durability, in which the pigment is delivered to the hair through oil, and there is no ammonia in the composition.

You can use a soft dye Dia Richesse, enriched with grape seed oil or SoColor Sync Pre-Bonded (Matrix), which contains a bonder that strengthens the internal structure of the hair. Each tube of Redken EQ Gloss is packed with protein, the building blocks of hair. If we talk about all-natural dyes, it can be henna or basma in case there are no allergies to them.

Features of coloring

Dyeing hair during pregnancy should be taken into account the nuances that exist in this period during the procedure. So, having decided to make a dyeing in a hair salon, it is worth making an appointment for its performance earlier in the morning, when the room has not yet taken root the smell from the procedures of other female clients. If the dyeing is done at home, it should be done with gloves on, not to keep the composition on the hair longer than the time specified on the package. After dyeing, the room should be carefully checked.

You should use only dyes 95-100% natural ingredients and untested on animals, such as products by Lebel, Organic Colour Systems and Aveda. Please note that due to pregnancy-related hormonal changes, the coloring results may differ from those expected. Before the procedure, it is advisable to test the colour on one strand.

In the first trimester

In the early stages of pregnancy, the most important processes take place, related to the laying of all the most important organs and systems of the future human body. During this period the question of the very continuation of pregnancy and fetal rooting is not yet fully determined, so in the first trimester you should be as careful as possible about any procedures with your body, including hair dyeing during pregnancy in the first weeks and months.

Although there is no scientific evidence that hair coloring harms the fetus in the early terms, experts advise to reinsure yourself and not to perform manipulations on changing hair color at this time. Specialists recommend to be cautious, especially during the first twelve weeks of pregnancy, because the fetus is not protected by the placenta until this moment and is most vulnerable to any external influences.

In the second trimester

In the 2nd trimester, the previously formed systems and organs of the foetus are actively developing and the nervous system is already at the level when the future child is able to receive information from the outside. The organism of the pregnant woman also stabilizes – the future mother is practically not affected by toxicosis, and the placenta protects the fetus quite reliably. The most frequent advice that specialists give about hair coloring during pregnancy is to wait for the 2nd trimester, which they consider “golden” not only for this procedure.

In the case of hair coloring, this is due to the fact that in the first trimester the future mother and the baby are in a key period of child development and consolidation of pregnancy. In the 2nd trimester, the baby’s basic muscles and organs are already sufficiently developed. That is why there is practically no risk of negative influence on the future baby’s health.

In the third trimester

If the necessity to dye the hair during pregnancy in the last trimester is felt by the woman as a vital necessity, in the 3rd trimester it is possible the same way as in the previous one. The main principle should be the rule – not to color during the period of carrying the baby too often and to limit the coloring to one procedure per month, which would be enough to maintain a well-groomed and stylish appearance. In order to carry out staining less frequently, it is worth choosing colors as close as possible to the natural shade.

In this case, the transition will not be so noticeable, and the appearance will remain ideal for a long time. In addition, you can use tinting shampoos and foundation balms, as well as using folk remedies. For example, to get brownish-reddish hair color will do black tea, and for a rich brown onion hulls or linden blossom are useful.
